Cookies are small data files placed on your computer or mobile device when you visit a website; they are widely used by online service providers to, for example, make their sites or services work, operate more efficiently, and in some cases collect reporting information. Cookies created and set by the owner of the website visited or by the provider of the services used (in this case Synaptica S.r.l.) are called first-party cookies; cookies set by parties other than the website owner are called third-party cookies. Third-party cookies enable third-party features or functionality to be provided through the website – or the service used – such as advertising, interactive content, and more. The third parties that set these types of cookies can recognise your computer both when it visits the website or service in question and when it visits certain other websites or services.
Synaptica uses both first-party and third-party cookies for several reasons: some cookies are required for technical reasons, in order for web pages or services provided to function, and are considered essential or strictly necessary cookies. Other cookies allow Synaptica and any third parties it may work with to monitor and target visitor interests and are defined as performance or functionality cookies. An example of this is cookies used to personalise the content of visited pages and the information that may be sent, or to enable the system to monitor any subscribers. How Synaptica uses these technologies is described in more detail below.
These cookies are strictly necessary to provide the services available through our web pages and to use some of their features, such as access to secure areas. Since these cookies are strictly necessary, you cannot refuse them without impacting the functioning of the pages. You can block or delete them by changing your browser settings, as described in the section “How can I control cookies?”. These strictly necessary cookies are used by Synaptica to provide the services available through the pages and to use some of their features.
These cookies are used to enhance the performance and functionality of the pages but are not essential for their use. However, without these cookies, certain functionality may become unavailable. At the time of writing this version of the cookie policy, no functionality cookies are currently in use.
These cookies collect information that is used in aggregate form to help Synaptica understand how its pages are used, how effective its marketing campaigns are, or to help customise websites and applications in order to improve the user experience. Google Analytics collects information that allows us to understand interactions with our web pages and, ultimately, refine that experience to provide a better service on Synaptica’s pages.
Synaptica and any third-party partners may occasionally use web beacons, pixels (or “clear gifs”), and other tracking technologies. These technologies use small graphic files that contain a unique identifier which enables recognition when someone has visited certain pages or, in the case of web beacons, opened an email sent to them. This allows, for example, monitoring of user traffic patterns from one page to another, communication with cookies to understand where a user came from – for example, from an online advertisement displayed on a third-party website – to deliver targeted advertising, to improve site performance, or to measure the success of marketing campaigns. Although a user may not be able to specifically refuse or disable these tracking technologies, in many cases these technologies depend on cookies to function correctly; therefore, in such cases, declining cookies will also impair the functioning of these technologies.
Every visitor has the right to decide whether to accept or reject cookies.
A user can exercise their cookie preferences by visiting the TRUSTe preference centre via this link: http://preferences-mgr.truste.com/.
You can set or modify your web browser controls to accept or refuse cookies: if you choose to refuse cookies, you may still browse Synaptica-owned web pages, although access to certain features or areas of the websites may be restricted. Since the means by which you can refuse cookies through your web browser controls vary from browser to browser, you should visit your browser’s help menu for more information.
Most advertising networks offer a way to opt out of interest-based advertising. If you would like more information, you can visit http://www.aboutads.info/choices/ or http://www.youronlinechoices.com.
You can opt out of mobile advertising identifiers for certain types of interest-based advertising by accessing the settings directly on your Apple or Android mobile device and following the most recent published instructions. If disabled, Synaptica will remove any collected data and no further data collection or tracking will occur.
Some Internet browsers, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safari, include the ability to transmit “Do Not Track” signals, or simply “DNT”. As uniform standards for “DNT” signals have not yet been adopted, Synaptica websites currently do not process or respond to “DNT” signals. Synaptica takes privacy seriously and will continue to monitor developments in DNT browser technology and will be ready to implement any potential future standard. For any questions about the use of cookies or other technologies by Synaptica, you can send an email to privacy@synaptica.info. Synaptica responds to all requests it receives from individuals wishing to exercise their rights, in accordance with applicable laws; to respond effectively, we may first ask you to verify your identity.
